Protect yourself from brand impersonation scams

Brand impersonation scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers use fake profiles and websites to trick you into providing personal information or to make payments for fictional purposes.

We have received reports of scammers using the Jobbatical brand name to reach their suspects via Facebook, Linkedin, Whatsapp and Telegram to recruit people for employment. In these cases, scammers are acting as representatives or employees of Jobbatical to offer fake employment opportunities, collect personal information, and request or instruct individuals to transfer money.

How brand impersonation scams work

Scammers may advertise job opportunities and may reach out directly via Whatsapp, Telegram or other platforms offering job opportunities. They might have set up a fake website using the company brand styles for account registration, information collection and communication.

Scammers might emit fictional tasks to their new recruits and at some point might ask for payments to complete a task.
Scammers might also use group chats on communication platforms (like Whatsapp and Telegram) to coordinate their efforts.

How to protect against brand impersonation scams

TO AVOID FALLING VICTIMS TO SCAMMERS, PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND:
  • Jobbatical would never offer employment via text platforms (like Whatsapp or Telegram). Open job opportunities would be made available on our careers page at https://www.jobbatical.com/jobs-and-careers and any outreach for employment would be made by our People & Culture team using email domain @jobbatical.com. Always check the full sender's email address, not just the display name.
  • Jobbatical would never ask for payments as part of task fulfilment. Any attempt to do so is suspicious
  • Jobbatical does not use Whatsapp or Telegram for work coordination
  • When in doubt, contact our team at https://www.jobbatical.com

What to do if a brand impersonation scammer already has your info or you have already made payments to them

WHEN ALREADY HAVING FALLEN VICTIM OF A SCAM, IT IS IMPORTANT TO ACT FAST:
  • When a scam has resulted in financial loss, inform the local authorities first. Depending on your location the authorities might have a dedicated unit for dealing with scam situations. Collect screenshots or correspondence as proof for the authorities.
  • Report any account that was used to create the connection. Platforms like Facebook and Linkedin might act by closing the accounts to ensure no further damage would be done.
  • If Jobbatical brand was used in the scam, inform us via https://www.jobbatical.com/contact-us to allow us to join in fighting against the scammers
