When a skilled professional relocates to France for work under the Talent Passport, it's often more than just one person making the move. For employers bringing in international talent, supporting a smooth transition for their families is part of the process. That’s where the Talent Passport - Family residence permit comes in.
This permit allows eligible family members to live and work in France without going through the slower and more demanding family reunification route. Here's what employers looking to relocate international employees to France and international professionals need to understand.
What is the French Talent Passport - Family Residence Permit?
The Talent Passport (Family) residence permit—sometimes referred to as the famille accompagnante permit—is designed specifically for family members of a Talent Passport holder. It allows them to legally reside and work in France for the same duration as the main permit holder.
This simplified option avoids the longer wait times of the standard family reunification route and gives spouses and eligible children full work rights from the start.
Who Can Apply?
The following family members are eligible:
- Spouse (aged 18 or older) of the Talent Passport holder
- Children who entered France as minors:
- Adult children who were minors when they arrived
- Children aged 16 to 18 who want to work
These family members may receive their own residence permit with the same validity as the main Talent Passport.
Note: Family members of EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens do not need this permit. Algerian nationals are subject to a separate agreement with France and cannot apply under this category.
Application Process
From outside France:
- Apply for a long-stay Talent Passport (Family) visa at a French consulate
- Upon arrival, apply online for the residence permit
- A certificate of approval serves as a temporary permit until the residence card is collected at the prefecture
If already in France:
- Submit an online application between 4 and 2 months before the current permit expires
- Families switching from a different status must apply for a change of status and prove eligibility through the official platform
